Lifestyle-specific benefits to having your own business and suggestions on which expenses may be considered tax deductible. Self evaluation tools to help you take inventory of your personal strengths, and where to find resources to shore up your weaknesses. |
Ask an accountant, or 'wing it' and maybe miss some valuable deductions. Even a good accountant may miss some deductions because he or she is unfamiliar with this business. Not sure of what resources and attributes are needed. Waste time and money by not focusing on your strengths and by spending time doing things that you may not be well suited to do. |
Save money by taking all legitimate deductions. Also save by providing information that will help your accountant set up the books. Save time by identifying areas that will benefit from training or seeking help. |
|

Step by step, lifestyle specific market planning guide. Determine who your target market is and how to attract them. Accounting primer to help you understand business accounting principles in simple language. Gives you the ability to make better decisions when working with an accountant. |
Start without a plan, or hire a planner to help you with the process. 'If you fail to plan, plan to fail'. Unwittingly leave yourself and your family exposed or consult with an attorney - at $200 per hour. As you can imagine, there are many techniques and issues that are specific to this business. You may hire a marketing consultant who knows little about the lifestyle, and who may steer you towards ineffective methods because they also make commissions on advertising. |
Save dozens of hours and thousands of dollars finding and using the right planner and planning process for your unique business. This chapter alone will pay for the workbook several times over. |

Have an attorney draw one up from scratch. |
By having a guide to get you started, you will save between $500 and $750. |
Frankly, my time is worth more than $20 per hour, but even
if you only value your time at that rate, this workbook will save you between
$1500 and $2000 in time alone, and about the same in professional fees. You
may also avoid some potentially painful mistakes. But perhaps the greatest advantage
is that you will have a head start in running your club in a professional manner,
with fewer 'learning experiences' that can make you look like a newbie and your
club look like a hobby. Consider this your first business expense. As such it
is fully deductible, making the net cost to you only $216 + S&H if you are in
the 28% tax bracket. ![]()
